Event Description

16 Days

Join us in the garden and make your count matter!

Help us check the pulse of nature this summer. We’re inviting families and nature lovers of all ages to visit the Leckford Estate in Hampshire and take part in the Butterfly Conservation’s Big Butterfly Count. It’s a wonderful, hands-on way for children to connect with the great outdoors while making a genuine contribution to protecting our precious UK wildlife.

Our spectacular 80-metre herbaceous border, nestled within the beautiful walled garden alongside Longstock Park Nursery, is bursting with summer blooms, not to mention the ultimate butterfly plants, our Buddleja Collection - making it a haven for butterflies and the perfect place to do your count.

How to Take Part

Getting involved is simple, fun and free:

Pick up a chart: Pop into our Nursery Garden Shop to collect your official butterfly spotting chart.
Go digital: Download the free Butterfly Conservation app to log your sightings on the go.
Get counting: Spend 15 minutes enjoying the sunshine in our walled garden and herbaceous border area, count the butterflies you see, and submit your findings!

Did you know? By taking part, your family becomes part of a UK-wide survey of butterflies, helping scientists understand how these beautiful insects are faring in our changing environment.

After your count, why not treat the family to a refreshing drink or a slice of cake at our Café? We look forward to welcoming you and your little nature heroes!
